Ordering FAQ

REGARDING EBOOK ORDERS

Why should I buy ebooks from the publisher and not a retailer like Amazon?
Authors make MUCH more money when you purchase from the publisher, because otherwise a very large percentage of every sale goes to the retailer. The majority of the retailers don’t actually do anything to earn that share, they just list the book for sale. In the case of Amazon, they also charge the publisher a fee for every ebook delivered to a customer. Purchasing from the publisher eliminates all that hassle, and ensures the author makes significantly more from the sale of the book.

What formats do you offer?
We currently offer our titles in non-encrypted EPUB format. Some titles, if heavy on illustrations, may also be available in PDF. Options are shown in the drop-down menu on each book’s description page.

How do I download my ebook purchase?
At the checkout, after your transaction concludes, you’ll be given a link to download your ebook. You may download it as often as you might need to. Either save the link, or you can always just log back into your account and download the title from your order history.

Will your ebooks work on any electronic reading device?
Yes! All you need is software capable of opening an EPUB file. If you’re opening on an Apple device, the Apple Books app should open automatically. For Android users, there are plenty of free reading apps available from the Google Play Store. Kindle readers? See below.

Can I download my title directly to my Kindle?
Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t want to make it that easy for you to buy your ebooks from someone other than Amazon. However, there’s a very easy workaround. Simply download your title to your computer, then head over to Amazon’s SEND TO KINDLE page. As long as you’re logged into the account your Kindle is associated with, all you have to do is upload (or drag and drop) your file to the middle of the page and Amazon does the rest.

REGARDING PRINT ORDERS

Why should I buy paperbacks/hardcovers from the publisher and not a retailer like Amazon?
Authors make MUCH more money when you purchase from the publisher, because otherwise a very large percentage of every sale goes to the retailer. The majority of the retailers don’t actually do anything to earn that share, they just list the book for sale. Purchasing from the publisher eliminates all that hassle, and ensures the author makes significantly more from the sale of the book. We can even charge less for the print edition because we’re not having to pay fees to the retailer. We can pretty much guarantee that the prices on our site will be lower than what you’re paying at a retailer for the same exact book.

How long will it take to receive my print copy?
We strive to have all books ship out to our customers within five business days, typically via Media Mail. In order to lessen the impact on the environment and avoid killing large forests of trees for reading pleasure, all of our books are print-on-demand. This means we don’t print a copy until you order it. In some cases we may have copies on-hand that we’ve ordered for various reasons, but typical print times will be 3-5 business days and allow another 3-5 business days for shipping.

Do you ship internationally?
Trust us, if you want to read our books we’ll find a way to get them to you anywhere on the planet. In some cases, we can even have them printed in your country which greatly reduces print and ship times. There is one quirk to this, which is that our shipping calculation system is based on shipping from the US. Therefore, we personally look at every international order, and we always will refund you the difference between what our site charged you for shipping and what the actual shipping turns out to be.

I see you have a promotion where I get the ebook version for free if I purchase the print edition. How does that work?
It couldn’t be easier! Simply add the paperback to your cart and the ebook will automatically add itself and be available for download after you finish checking out. Why do we do this? We recognize that print-on-demand takes a bit longer to reach our customers, and we want you to be able to enjoy the book as soon as possible. So, we offer the ebook as a way for you to get started until the print copy arrives.

Are print books returnable?
Due to the fact that our books are print-on-demand, purchases from our site are non-returnable unless you’re ordering a significant number of copies for an event or occasion. Of course, if the book is defective in some way, we’ll be happy to replace it.

Do you offer bulk discounts/orders for libraries/orders for retailers?
All of the above! Just drop an email to Jay Hartman at jhartman@mistimedia.com and let him know what you need.

Do you offer print review copies?
In the rare occasion we will, but this is something we don’t believe should be practiced in the industry anymore. There is no reason in the electronic age for reviewers to not accept ebook review copies. We’re amazed at how many reviewers say they want print copies, but constantly post about how much they use their Kindle. We’ll be happy to entertain requests from legitimate review sources, but our standard is to send out ebook review copies.
