  1. Maggie Toussaint

A thought-provoking collection of stories about the best and worst of people. I hooted out loud about the judge hearing cases on a cot behind his bench! With these tales penned by a former judge, the grittier side of life shines through. All the stories stayed with me long after I’d finished them-especially the Mah Jong ladies of “Legal Magic” and the avenging angel granddaughter in “This is where I buried my wives.” These short stories of sin and redemption are a poignant look at the darker side of human nature, a nod to Darwin’s survival of the fittest, and the flaming fire of vengeance. Makes you wonder how evolved we really are.
